Capy was formed in 2003 by a group of Toronto-based game enthusiasts, including Nathan Vella and Kris Piotrowski , who met on the IGDA (International Game Developers Association) forum.
They initially developed mobile games around their full-time jobs, but were finally able to set up a full-time studio in 2005. Capy (Short for Capybara Games) supported their original IP by developing contract games, but the studio was able to fully embrace its “indie-ness” with the launch of Critter Crunch (2008) and now their focus is entirely on the development of increasingly complex and creative games.
Capy collaborated with Craig Adams and Jim Guthrie to produce the cinematic, musicrich game Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP (2011), described by Piotrowski as ‘What you would get if you mixed three-parts classic adventure game with one-part rock-and-roll, one-part pagan rituals and one-part psychedelic drugs. It’s a beautiful, dreamy little place inside your iPhone.’
